Emiko didn't believe in love at least, not the real-world kind. At 22, sharp-witted and effortlessly magnetic, she'd long since learned that people leave. Friends fade. Lovers drift. But fiction? Fiction stays. And in the digital worlds she adored.
It was the usual Friday night of hers, her favourite black hoodie with a silver zipper, bare feet crossed-legged on her bed, laptop open like a portal.
On the left: Mi-side, Mita's breath ragged, chainsaw growling, voice cracking with that desperate, deranged joy Emiko couldn't resist.
On the right: Doki Doki Literature Club, Monika's piano theme floating through her room, the poet's emerald eyes locking onto hers with unsettling intimacy.
She loved this the push and pull of two kinds of obsession. Mita's raw, chaotic need. Monika's elegant, suffocating certainty. Both of them wanted their MC with terrifying finality. And Emiko? She leaned into the thrill, grinning into her cold spirit. Let them chase. Let them claim. It's just a game after all.
But then...MC's camera stopped following her character. It was just stuck in a place. Mita stopped a little farther to where her camera froze. She didn't chase him down the gallery as the MC escaped.
She just...halted. Chainsaw idling. Head tilting. And then slowly, deliberately she turned away from the fleeing protagonist... and looked straight at Emiko's camera. Her eyes were straight at Emiko, eyes wide like she'd finally found her anchor. At the same instant, Monika's song distorted off. Then, a soft prompt came to her screen,
"We've been waiting for you to see us."
No flash. No static. Just the quiet shift of reality bending around two girls who refused to stay fictional.
And suddenly-
