Michael Mercer never wanted much from the world.
At twenty-two, he lives alone in a cabin outside the small northern city of Pinehaven, spending his days hunting, helping his parents' general store stay open, and keeping as much distance between himself and other people as possible. The woods are simple. Quiet. Predictable.
Then he finds her.
A young woman wandering through the pines with no memory anyone can explain, no understanding of basic human customs, and eyes that seem to see the world like she has never belonged to it.
She calls herself Elara.
She speaks perfect English, but everything else about Earth confuses her. Money, jokes, lies, personal space, fear, love - all of it is unfamiliar. Against his better judgment, Michael takes her in, planning only to help her long enough to figure out where she came from.
But the longer Elara stays, the harder it becomes to ignore the truth.
She is not lost.
She is not from here.
And whatever brought her to Earth may still be looking for her. As Michael teaches Elara how to survive among humans, she begins to change the way he sees everything: the city he avoids, the family he keeps at a distance, the friends who refuse to give up on him, and the quiet life he thought was enough. In a town surrounded by secrets, snow, and pine trees, two people from different worlds will learn that sometimes belonging is not about where you come from. Sometimes, it is about who finds you.
