After more than half a century as a territory, Hawaiʻi is finally a state. Statehood does not quiet the ghosts of annexation, occupation, and war. It does not resolve the tension between sovereignty and survival, nor does it answer who she is meant to be now: the soul of a people, state of America, or something fiercely her own. As the banners fade and the speeches end, Hawaiʻi must confront the fractures in her history-the betrayals, the compromises, the loyalties that still ache-and decide what parts of her past she will carry forward. In the wake of celebration comes reckoning. And in that reckoning, Hawaiʻi must forge an identity not handed to her by conquest or congress, but created by and for herself and her people.

Yesterday, Hawaii was just an island in the sun. Today, she stands on America's homefront-brave, bright, and unbowed! When the storm of war crashes over the Pacific, this proud land does not falter. She opens her arms to soldiers, carries the torch of liberty, and proves that the American spirit shines strongest against the darkest night. From the scandal of the Massie Affair that rattled her trust, to the bombs of Pearl Harbor that shattered her dawn, the long years of Martial Law when loyalty itself was tested, to the proud march toward statehood when Hawaii finally raised her voice and claimed her place in the Union, this book is about the patriot that is Hawaii! "I could tell you my adventures-beginning from this morning," said Alice a little timidly; "but it's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then." The United States of America was not dealing with the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom well. Batting his own thoughts and the thoughts of his people and government, the fate of the Kingdom's personification lies in his hands. The Empire of Japan was furious. The kingdom she so adored was now in the hands of Western Powers, and Japan knew it was only a matter of time before they took Hawaii's life. Japan didn't know what she could do, only that she had to do something to save Hawaii. Kalaupapa missed his mother. Ever since she died with the Kingdom, his world seems to have become muted. He just wanted his mom back, no matter how unrealistic it was. Cover by @ApeculiarChild2.

If she tears your heart to pieces - and as it gets older and stronger, it will tear deeper - love her, love her, love her!" - Great Expectations, Charles Dickens The interlude to Hawai'i's story, from the point of view of our favourite bastard.

In the heart of the vast oceans, beyond the vibrant blue expanse, lies a place of breathtaking beauty known as Hawaiʻi Nei, the land of kamaʻāina, children of the earth. The name "Hawaiʻi Nei" is not merely a designation of a homeland but an expression of endearment. It, in its literal sense, translates to "our beloved Hawaiʻi." The word "nei" means a sense of intimacy and belonging. It means our own . For Hawaii has, and always will be our own

A oneshot book for Hawaii's Story Series. Usually, little snippets that I write on the side, that may or may not play into the books. Not all Hawaii, but most of them will be. I do take requests! No smut, just my dumbass writing whatever comes to mind!
