Mattheo stepped past everyone and stood level with his brother, extending his trembling hands just like him.
"I do," he swallowed hard as he spoke. "Heather, you touched the lives of everyone here." He wiped the tear slipping from his eye with the back of his hand, trying to smile. "You showed even a piece of shit like me that he wasn't alone. We are broken pieces cut from the same fabric, Heather..."
With every word Mattheo spoke, my breath caught; each one stabbed straight into my ribcage. The tear spilling from my eye was swept away by the wind.
"Everything we did was for you," Tom's hoarse voice sounded like a low hum in the wind. "I don't know how you learned the truth, but you need to see things from our perspective-please, just let us."
Once again, he gently pushed his outstretched hand forward, urging me to take it.
I lifted my trembling hand into the air with difficulty. I wanted to reach for them, to hold onto their hands-but I quickly dropped my arm back down. Whimpering, I stepped backward.
"This is who I am," my voice broke. "Alone, unhappy, unloved." Another tear slipped from my eye. "But this time, I won't resist the water when it embraces me." I smiled faintly, a shaky breath escaping my lips. "Goodbye, boys..."
Spreading my arms wide, I threw myself off the cliff.
