Ishan clung to Shubman's leg like a terrified kitten.
His small hands trembled. His cheeks were red.
His voice... broken.
"Shub... Shub... don't go. Please. Don't leave me. Don't leave your biwi alone..."
He hiccupped, pulling Shubman's shirt desperately.
"You are my husband... maa said you are my husband. No husband leaves their biwi. Please don't leave me, Shub..."
Shubman forced himself to stand, to walk toward the car.
Every step felt like punishment.
Ishan staggered after him, crying, voice cracking:
"SHUB DON'T GO! DON'T LEAVE YOUR BIWI"
And then
Shubman heard the small thud
his tiny biwi on the ground, arms reaching out for him, sobbing like someone ripped his whole world away
"Stop The Car."
The vehicle had hardly gone ten meters.
Shubman pushed the door .
He ran .his heart pounding, breath shaking.
Ishan saw him.
Tiny legs scrambling, he ran too, stumbling, crying harder.
They met in the middle
Ishan practically crashed into Shub.
Shubman dropped to his knees, hugging him so tightly as if the world was ending.
"No husband leaves his partner," Ishan sobbed against his neck. "Shub, don't go. Don't go. Don't leave your biwi..."
Shubman's arms wrapped around him with a protectiveness too deep for his age.
His voice was low, trembling, raw.
"I won't leave you. Not now. Not tomorrow. Not in this life, baby."
Lakhwinder stepped closer. "Shubman... he will calm down. You must..."
Shubman lifted his head.
And for the first time in his life, he defied his father openly.
"I am not leaving him."
His eyes were dark, steady, unmovable.
"Where my biwi is i will be there. even if it is heaven, hell, or graveyard ,I will go there. I will stay there. I will not leave him. Ever."
A chill ran through the entire family.
They suddenly understood
This wasn't childish affection.
Not pity.
Not guilt.
This was something deeper.
Something that ran through his veins like destiny carved into bone
