Against a backdrop of vineyards in a cozy Italian village, the Caglierie family is preparing for a lavish anniversary party. Excited to receive their son's gift - an original composition - Enzo and Isabella proudly boast to their guests about their nineteen-year-old's celebrated talent on the piano. Gianni's true love has always been music, but that changes the moment he is introduced to handsome Nikola. As the red wine from the family's vineyard flows, and the pair get closer, Gianni realizes he is falling for the mysterious guest. When Nikola begs him for a private audience, Gianni agrees. Finding themselves alone, Nikola begs Gianni to play not his creation, but a requiem. As the night progresses, and all the guests have left, the pair find themselves in the garden, drunk and obviously attracted to one another. Yet Nikola carries a tragic secret - a painful reality he cannot escape from - one that will destroy him and shatter life as Gianni knows it.

Araminta was called a witch. Now she's gone. And the last person who saw her is looking for answers. *** A Good Girl's Guide To Murder x Wednesday *** Two years ago, Araminta Green disappeared. Her neighbor and classmate Jordan Thompson was the last person who saw her, walking through a graveyard in the early morning hours. Jordan was intimidated by Araminta. With her pale-powdered face, black lips, spider-web eyeliner, and her love for tarot reading, it was no wonder that people speculated that Araminta was a witch. But Jordan was also intrigued by her dark aura, sensing that she may be as lonely as him. Maybe if he had reached out to her back then, she wouldn't be missing now. When Jordan is tasked with creating an investigative podcast for a college course, there is no question about which case he wants to delve into. With his cat Kiki as his co-pilot, Jordan sets off to answer the question of what happened to Araminta, even as his recordings constantly get disrupted by a cawing crow in the background. Following the trail of Araminta, Jordan discovers truths both about his missing classmate and himself, because while he hasn't vanished he is definitely lost as well. Will he be able to find both himself and Araminta? *** An ONC novella using prompt #81: The town's witch has gone missing and no one is looking for her but her two familiars - a crow and a black cat, plus the teen who has always been scared of her.

WIP|| A girl raised on a farm. A dragon stolen from his kingdom. Together, they must find out who they are beyond their birthrights, even if that means defying expectations. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eleven-year-old Darby Quickness works on her family farm. There, she oversees the unicorn stables, and the selkie pond, while her little sister Alvie avoids work, choosing instead to hang out at the mermaid grotto and talk fashion. Darby's fine with her life, for the most part, until, one day, her grandmother up and leaves. With a sneaking suspicion Darby's grandmother left because of her, there's a hole in her heart no amount of chores seems able to fill. That all changes when a strange man shows up in the middle of the night with a note and an egg. To Miss Darby Quickness, it reads. Dream big. Dream of the sky and beyond. - The Librarian at Scall P. S. He tells me his name is Corbyn. Darby doesn't understand much about the letter apart from her own name. She's never visited the library at Scall, or even known that a place called Scall existed. Corbyn seems like a silly name for any egg, and she was never much of a dreamer, not when there were so many chores on the farm needing done. But the man disappears without offering any help, leaving Darby with an egg to take care of (first things first, she must figure out what kind of egg it is), and a directive to dream big, whatever that means. As a strange boy with sky-blue hair starts popping into Darby's dreams, she begins to understand the reasons why her grandmother left. And when she connects them to herself, and her own struggles, Darby realizes the choice she has to make - her family's farm, or her own dreams of the sky. 2025 || first draft ||
