His voice was hoarse as he whispered against my ear, "Shh, love. Stop being so irresistible. I want to give you something." He pulled his fingers out of my pants, leaving me empty and frustrated. My eyes snapped to his instantly, a soft whimper escaping my lips. He took out a small, velvet box from his pocket, holding it out to me silently. Curiosity piqued, I opened it to reveal a pair of delicate gold anklets, tiny diamonds and rubies scattered along the chain. I looked up at him questioningly, but he just smiled softly, taking my left foot gently in his hand. He wrapped one anklet around my left ankle, securing it with a gentle click. Then he picked up my right foot, his touch reverent. "Fuck, love," he murmured, "You look even more beautiful with these." He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to my left ankle, right above the anklet. I gasped, he smiled against my skin before kissing my right ankle as well. "Perfect." he whispered. ⚬──────────✧──────────⚬ Aarohi Arora, a soft-spoken, seemingly fragile girl with quiet strength buried deep within her. So they found a replacement. Her. The girl who had spent her entire life in their home, yet never truly belonged there. Against her wishes, her parents forced her to sit beneath her sister's veil and take her place at the mandap. A hope that perhaps, with time, things would get better. On their wedding night, she waited for him. And waited. But somewhere between hope and exhaustion, she fell asleep. What she didn't know was that her husband had already left the country that very night without a single word. Without an explanation. Without looking back. Six months later, he returns. He stares at me. For ten seconds. Twenty. Then he moves. Not back. Forward. His hand comes up. Cups my jaw. Thumb on my cheek. Same as in the hospital. Except he's awake now. Stone sober. No blood. No morphine. "Last chance," he says. "Tell me to stop." I don't. His mouth finds mine. Not an accident. Not gravity. Not a rug. A choice. His lips are warm. Soft. Sure. Nothing like the clumsy press on the floor. This is real. This is him. And I kiss him back. Because I'm done losing. His mouth is on mine. Warm. Real. Intentional. His thumb brushes my cheek. His other hand finds my waist, pulling me in like he can't help it. Like he's been holding back for days and it finally snapped. I kiss him back. Because I'm stupid. Because I want. Because for three seconds, I let myself believe the _guard, not keep_ line was bullshit. Then he tear himself away. Not slow. Not gentle. Rips back like I burned him. Like I'm poisonous. "No." His voice is wrecked. Not like before. Worse. "No, fuck. Jay-" He stumbles back. Hits the counter again. Grips the edge until his knuckles go white. "What?" I'm breathing hard. My lips feel swollen. "Keifer, what --" "That was a mistake." _____________________________________&_____ Warning ⚠️ Mature scenes will be in this book.
