Kasi Williams, a young black woman from Detroit, has always found solace in the quiet strength of her independence. After the tragic loss of her parents in a devastating car accident when she was just a child, she and her older brother Jason clung to each other, building a life from the fragments of their shattered world. But when Jason is killed in a police shooting ruled an "accident," Kasi's heart is left in ruins. Seeking escape from the pain, she leaves everything behind and retreats to a serene, distant village in China, where the rolling hills and tranquil rivers offer a fragile promise of peace. There, she meets Tang Wei Long (唐伟龙), a man whose name echoes wealth and prosperity, but whose life is shrouded in the cold isolation of his family's industrial empire. The Tangs, owners of a vast network of electronics factories in the bustling industrial hub of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, are known for their power and influence. Yet, Wei Long is drawn to Kasi not for her knowledge of his wealth, but for her authenticity-a rare gem in a world of superficial admiration. When Wei Long first hears Kasi singing to a group of children, her voice carried a haunting beauty that stirs something deep within him. Will Wei Long's relentless pursuit of Kasi's heart be enough to mend the fractures of her past? Or will the weight of their differences keep them forever apart? Dive into this emotionally charged journey and discover if love can bloom where the world least expects it.

*PREVIEW(CH. 22)* My shoulders eased a fraction at the food being cooked. Guess Chuck moved fast. Then I rounded the corner into the kitchen, and the relief curdled in my throat. Canary was standing at the stove. Blonde now. Hair loose, bare feet on my tile. One of my shirts hung off her frame. My vision tunneled. "Hey. You're home early." "Out of all my fuckin' years, I've never-" I said. "And don't tell me that's my shit-get out." She laughed, easy and pleased with herself. "God, you're tense. Guess church didn't do much." She glanced at the pan. "I figured you'd want somethin' hot waitin'." "Leave." I stepped fully into the room. "Now." "I can't. I'm workin'." She didn't turn around. "They let me through when I said I knew you personally." A glance over her shoulder. "It's really not that nice to always have girls yippin' and runnin' willy-nilly 'round here." This damn reputation. I should've just kept my damn mouth to myself. "Workin' for who?!" "You, silly goose." She said, her eyes flicking to my mouth. "Thought you'd appreciate someone who knows how to really take care of a man." "Take that shirt off," I said. "Hell, burn it with you in it." Her smile widened. "You buyin' dinner first, big boy?" I crossed the room in two strides and grabbed her by the front of that shirt, slamming her back against the counter. "I just left church," I said through my teeth. "And got penance. I'm not in the mood to be tested." My grip tightened, holding her away. "I don't care if you're a woman. I could really kill you." "You should really smile," She whispered. "Wouldn't want someone gettin' the wrong idea." "Shut the hell up." "Okay," She choked out, a smirk still playing. "But this is a little too kinky for my likin'." "Did that bitch Calvin send you?" I asked. "Or did you just wake up and decide to piss me off for sport?" "Dollar's a dollar," She said. "And I know you pay real good. Thought I'd do you the favor." The back door creaked open.
