Ever since the Tegridy Farms "incident" that resulted in the death of Stan's sister and later the suicide of Stan's mother, Stan has been isolated and ditched by nearly everybody in school and his friend group-except Kyle.

"You can't change somebody who isn't willing to change." Stan Marsh, a closeted 17-year-old, finds himself in a tough position whilst trying to hide his feelings from his lifelong best friend, Kyle Broflovski.
