I was straddling Gavin, trying to act normal, his eyes locked on mine.
I let out a shaky sigh, trying to focus on anything but the friction between us. "Do you ever wish I was different, Gav?"
He looked up at me, his eyes dark. "No. Why?"
"Because I can't even be a good friend to you," I muttered, my voice tight. "I suck, honestly."
He pulled me closer dragging me so close I could feel the heat of him through my jeans. "Who are you and why are you saying mean things to my best friend?"
I chuckled, looking down at my lap so he wouldn't see how much he was getting to me.
I felt his fingers catch my chin, firm and warm, forcing me to meet his gaze. Those hazel eyes were intense, stripping away every lie I was trying to tell myself.
"Em, you're perfect," he said, and for a second, I forgot how to breathe.

They promised each other one thing: make it count.
Gavin Hart and Emilia Jones have been inseparable since 5th grade-same friend group, same summers at Brody's garage, same late nights filled with laughter, music, and everything that makes life feel lighter. They act like siblings, fight like siblings... and love each other like they're terrified to admit it out loud.
With family lives falling apart behind closed doors and graduation creeping closer every day, their friend group makes a pact: one last unforgettable summer, one last year before everything changes.
But time doesn't pause for anyone.
As senior year hits harder, feelings grow deeper, secrets get heavier, and the question they've been avoiding becomes impossible to ignore-what are Gavin and Emilia to each other?
Because some summers don't last forever.
And some people change you for life.
