"I have lived this long, haven't I?"
It's easy to lose a child in a mall, or even around the house, when they're quiet. They hardly say a word, when they should be talking, and chattering, at 6 years of age. They have started school, and are making connections between people. They are growing up, yet they do not speak. They never said a word, when they were picked up by 'workers' of their family. They never dared to yell, when they were slapped with a piece of tape across their mouths, and bound to chairs for hours.
They were 6 years old then, but they are 18 years old, and times have changed. No longer do they hold their breath when someone tells them too. You are on their land, and they have the control. They do as they please, because if they didn't, tomorrow may never be there. They go to sleep, knowing they have made a life for themselves, and awake, knowing they lived through the night.
Astrid, Asher and Avery, live with knives to their throats every single day, without a single clue, after 12 years, if they are ever going to make it out alive. They always have an eye on the exit, and even debate taking it, but then, they would cost themselves their lives, wouldn't they? They wouldn't know, unless they walked through that one door, and saw the other side of the world. The other side of that door.
