Mya once believed Chase was simply someone familiar. He was always there, someone she had grown used to, even if she never fully stepped into his world. Before college, their closeness felt easy and unquestioned. They spent time together without needing reasons, never imagining that anything could change. After they left for college, nothing ended outright. They still saw each other, still spoke when their paths crossed. But life grew fuller, schedules clashed, and the space between them slowly widened. Conversations became shorter. Silences lasted longer. What they once shared began to feel distant, like something she could no longer reach. As Mya starts paying closer attention, she begins to see Chase differently. She notices the way he stays quiet but present, the way he cares without asking for anything in return. In seeing him more clearly, she also begins to understand how much had gone unspoken between them, and how easily love can be hidden behind familiarity. Mya comes to realize that life often places gentle people beside us. People who ask for nothing, yet hope deeply on our behalf. People who wish we might wake up one day feeling a little lighter, a little steadier, a little less broken. And perhaps, without ever realizing it, someone has been wishing exactly that for her all along.
