After a rough time of failed crops and thieving birds Jasmine's father, Thomas, creates a small scarecrow to assist in the surveillance of the fields. Jasmine begins to visit the scarecrow at the young age of 6, she grows very fond of the scarecrow because he always listens when she needs him to. She gives him the name Lawrence when trying to find a good label for him. Thomas says he smiled the brightest when she's with him.
