"Is everyone here?" Jeonghan screamed slightly, his eyes scanning through the crowd of children. He counted quickly, hyperaware of the time they'd have left to leave the house. "No! We're missing Channie!" Soonyoung yelled from the couch. "Chan! Get down here!" Jeonghan collected his things, his eyes glancing down quickly at his wrist watch. "Come on guys, to the car!" He started gently pushing the children towards the driveway, "Channie! Come on or we're going to be late!" An eight year old boy comes running down the stairs, a wide fake smile on his lips. "Sorry, I'm here!" Jeonghan nodded, his nerves lessening slightly at the final child. He ushered the eight year old out of the door, glad everyone was okay. What he didn't know was that Chan spent most of his time criticizing himself on the type of shirt he was wearing, his mind never really settling for one every shirt always looking bad on him. - Though Choi Chan came from a rich family, with ten older brothers and two male fathers people would think his life was full of happiness and luxury but covers were really only for show.

If you ask Wonwoo when it all began, he'll tell you it didn't. Because nothing ever began with Mingyu. Mingyu was the kind of person who just... happened. Like summer heat, like loud laughter in quiet places, like falling asleep beside someone and waking up already missing them. They'd known each other since they were kids , since scraped knees and chasing fireflies, since "go away" meant "stay closer," and Mingyu never listened anyway. Back then, Mingyu was too loud. Too bright. Too much. Wonwoo didn't like loud things. But somehow, he never told Mingyu to be quiet. Not really. They grew up messily, awkwardly, in the way that boys with growing hearts do. Somewhere along the way, Mingyu got taller. Wonwoo got quieter. And love, whatever that was, started threading between them like light through leaves. Soft. Unspoken. Unnoticed. At least, by everyone except Mingyu. This is a story about: A boy who loved too loudly. And another who loved too quietly. It's about friendships that blur and feelings that twist, about secrets too dangerous to speak aloud, and moments that feel like forever even if they aren't. It's about what happens when one of them falls first. And waits for the other to catch up. Even when it hurts. Even when it's too late. This is the story of Wonwoo and Mingyu. Before the blood. Before the chaos. Before goodbye tasted like a kiss neither of them was ready to give. And before love, finally, painfully, made itself known.

Kim Mingyu's life is built around love, loss, and responsibility. At just 26, he's a single father to his four-year-old son, Hansol, after losing his wife during childbirth. Between his demanding job as an architect and raising a child on his own, Mingyu barely has time to breathe, let alone take care of himself. But he keeps going-for Hansol, for the memory of the woman he loved, and for the quiet promise he made the day she passed: "I'll give him everything." When work becomes too much and his parents begin pressing him about moving on, Mingyu knows something has to change. At the recommendation of his best friend, Seungcheol, he hires Jeon Wonwoo, a soft-spoken barista with a gentle smile and calm eyes, to help look after Hansol. Wonwoo expects nothing more than a simple babysitting job. But what he finds instead is a small family still grieving, still healing, and still learning how to love again. Hansol latches onto Wonwoo almost immediately-calling him "Mumma Woo" and drawing crayon pictures of the three of them like it's always been that way. Wonwoo doesn't want to get attached, but the warmth of the home, the sound of Hansol's laughter, and the quiet way Mingyu smiles when no one's looking make it impossible not to. Everything becomes more complicated when Mingyu, out of desperation, tells his visiting parents that he has a new lover-hoping to stop their constant pressure to move on. But now they want to meet the supposed boyfriend, and with no one else to turn to, Mingyu asks Wonwoo to help him one last time: "Just pretend... just for a week." Wonwoo agrees, for Hansol's sake. For Mingyu's sake. Maybe even for his own. But fake smiles start to feel real. Late-night conversations blur the line between pretending and longing. And the way Mingyu looks at Wonwoo when Hansol falls asleep in his arms makes it harder and harder to remember what they're not.
