Have you ever wondered what it's like to stare at the stars every night, wishing they'd show you a way out? I did.
When I was six, I'd lie on the grass, dreaming beneath that endless sky-dreaming of a life far from the shouting and fighting that filled my home. My parents argued everywhere: the kitchen, holidays, even my birthday. I couldn't take it anymore. So, I ran.
Eleven years later, fresh out of the military, I found myself on my aunt's farm, searching for peace.
But peace wasn't what I found.
There was Alex-sun-kissed skin, lean muscles from working the horses, and an ego just as big as his smile. He worked for no pay, but somehow always acted like he owned the place. He had a knack for getting under my skin-always trying to one-up me, showing off like he was the king of the farm.
Every time I thought I'd finally win a battle, he'd be right there, pushing harder.
I hated it.
But maybe, just maybe, there was something worth fighting for between us.
