Nobody was capable of destroying the unique bond they shared except for Will's step-sister, Eleven. She wasn't intentionally trying to sabotage their friendship. In fact, she had no knowledge about Will's massive crush on Mike. However, when Mike flew to California for spring break, she wanted him all to herself. He seemed to be perfectly fine with that.
