Valentine walked toward her, closing the distance until Sierra was backed against the mahogany table. "Is that what you think? That this is a game of points?"
"Isn't it?" Sierra challenged, her voice trembling with a mix of rage and that 'unknown wanting' from before. "You chase away everyone. You humiliate me with your perfection. Why can't you just let me be?"
Valentine reached out, her thumb tracing Sierra's lower lip, her touch sending a jolt through Sierra's body. "Why can't you just accept what is between us, Sierra? Why do you fight a fire that has already consumed you?"
"Because it's wrong," Sierra breathed, her eyes darting to the door. "Because of my father, because of the will, because... because it's you."
Valentine leaned in, her breath hot against Sierra's ear, her voice a low, terrifyingly beautiful vow. "I don't care about the will. I don't care about the name. I am willing to burn the world-my reputation, this company, every bridge I've ever built-just to have you. Do you understand? I would let it all turn to ash if it meant you were standing in the middle of it with me."
