The Stranger Things finale marks a dark day for Byler shippers...so here's how I imagined Byler's life moving forward after the ending. English isn't my first language, pls be kind. The story is picking up in summer, 1 year after the party graduated. It's written mainly in Mike's pov, but alternating between different pov's from time to time. I have put together a playlist you can listen to while reading the chapters. The reading time and song lenght doesn't line up, but feel free to check out the songs! I wrote them in the beginning of every chapter. I am continuously writing and publishing chapters, the story isn't finished yet!

College was supposed to be a fresh start. The Party is scattered across nearby campuses, close enough to pretend nothing has changed. Will is finally happy or at least trying to be with his new boyfriend, Carlton. Mike tells himself he doesn't care. He tells himself a lot of things. Between shared houses, crowded college parties, and a friend group that never really learned how to separate, they keep falling into familiar patterns: late nights, quiet check-ins, and Mike noticing things he probably shouldn't anymore. Everything Mike thought he understood about himself starts to unravel. Some realizations come too late. Some feelings refuse to stay buried. And some feelings don't fade just because you pretend they have.

This is a re-write of stranger things season 5, in which, plot holes are solved, the painting is addressed, conformitygate is real, but most importantly, Byler is canon. Btw, this is a realistic way the duffer brothers would have been able to make byler canon, they don't kiss and hold hands in the first episode. Cover is a fan made poster, I think..? After graduation, the crew has split, Dustin has his new girlfriend, Max and Lucas are still planning things, Nancy, Robin, Steve and Jonathan are planning to meet every month. Will and Mike got closer, they hang out a bunch of times together but they still didn't talk much. Will has his own guy; Mike is writing his own book. But something feels off.
