Arwen si dimostrò subito essere una vera lady, posata e riflessiva per la gioia della madre che, dopo due turbolenti maschi, adorava passare del tempo a fare finta di bere il te invece di impedire salti dai tetti e dalle terrazze di Rivendell (come puntualmente cercavano di fare gli altri due). Aranel invece era tale e quale Elladan ed Elrohir e la si poteva vedere più spesso scarmigliata e sporca di fango correre dietro ai fratelli maggiori che seduta pulita a lasciarsi pettinare i capelli. Tuttavia le sorelle avevano un legame molto stretto, come il giorno e la notte. I fratelli e i genitori le adoravano così come gli altri abitanti di Gran Burrone. Arwen era la cocca di Erestor mentre Aranel l'allieva preferita di Glorfindel. Fu infatti chiaro fin da subito quale strada avrebbe intrapreso l'elfa dai capelli argentei così, quando Arwen ricevette il suo primo set di cucito, Aranel ricevette una spada di legno. Mentre Arwen creava il suo primo punto croce Aranel imparava a bilanciare spada e scudo. Dopo una settimana però Glorfindel, stufo di vederla usare lo scudo come un'arma contundente, le diede in mano due spade. Dopo un paio di mosse esplorative l'elfetta si illuminò in viso: aveva trovato il suo stile. Aranel si allenava duramente e presto arrivò a uguagliare i fratelli maggiori. #1 in Lord of the Rings (8.5.23)
