One year ago, Prince Andrew of Avaloria reclaimed his name. The rebellion's fight toppled Lord Vale's grip on the kingdom, but Avaloria's future is far from secure. War looms on the horizon as Narva and Elmet edge closer to open conflict - and Avaloria is trapped between them. The wrong choice could destroy everything Andrew has fought to protect. In the halls of the palace, the dangers are quieter, but no less deadly. Princess Beatrix of Narva moves with practiced grace, her presence a constant reminder of an old betrothal Andrew never chose. Whispers of a future royal wedding circulate in the court, threatening to undermine every decision. And somewhere beyond the palace walls, is Veronica Neale, though she's never far from Andrew's thoughts. When new enemies emerge and old wounds are reopened, Andrew must confront what it truly means to be king - and how much of himself he's willing to sacrifice to keep Avaloria from shattering. Because in a kingdom built on fragile alliances, even the smallest crack can bring the whole throne down. **BOOK 2 OF THE LEGACY OF AVALORIA TRILOGY**

It's spring 1997, nineteen-year-old Cairo Beauvais is a master of the hustle. Between off-Broadway auditions and slaying creatures that go bump in the Bayou, Cairo's never missed a rent check. But when a job in Baton Rouge turns into a bloodbath, Cairo is tasked to go to Lafayette as a glorified babysitter for a restless sixteen-year-old socialite. At the same time, Roman Delacroix, a nineteen-year-old reanimated corpse, is trying desperately not to exist. Resurrected under circumstances he doesn't fully understand, Roman keeps a low profile by renting a room in a boarding house. He applies for a night watchman job at the Port of New Orleans and attempts to be normal, but all that collapses the night he hears screams coming from the Devereux estate. Against his better judgment, Roman intervenes - drawing Cairo into his orbit and entangling them both in the Devereux family's secrets. Don't get them wrong; the last thing they want is to help people fix their mistakes. But as the house begins to reveal what it was built to contain, exposing the truth may be the only way either of them walks away with their body - and dignity - intact.

I kept every promise I made to Marcus. Including the stupid one. We were seventeen, drunk on stolen wine coolers, when he said: "If we're both single at thirty, we should just date each other." I laughed and clinked my bottle against his. "Sure. Deal." Twelve years later, three weeks before my thirtieth birthday, Marcus calls. There's someone he wants me to meet. Naturally, I did what any rational person would do: got drunk, stumbled into our old neighborhood park, and found a shimmering portal that sent me back to the night we made that pact. I have one shot to fix this. One chance to rewrite our story. I just hope I don't fuck it up.
