Mason Carter was normal.
At least, that's what he thought.
Popular at school, good grades, decent friends, completely human.
Then Luca Devereux asks him out.
Which should've been impossible already, because Luca is everything Mason avoids: reckless, arrogant, infamous for fights, captain of the football team, and rumoured to disappear into the woods at night with his gang.
But Luca has a secret.
He's a werewolf.
And Mason is his mate.
The problem is the bond formed wrong.
Most mate bonds create emotional attachment over time. This one is immediate. Violent. Unstable.
The second Luca walks too far away, Mason gets sick.
Headaches. Fever. Shaking hands. Breathlessness. Eventually coughing blood.
The farther apart they are, the worse it gets.
Luca thought the bond would calm down after the first few days. Instead, it keeps getting stronger, until Mason physically cannot survive without him nearby.
Now Luca has to keep Mason close while hiding the supernatural world from him, dealing with rival packs, and figuring out why a supposedly human boy has a mate bond powerful enough to kill them both.
Because normal humans aren't supposed to react like this.
And maybe Mason was never human at all.
