Santa met Perth when they were fifteen. Perth was rich, charming, annoyingly good-looking, and most importantly interested in Santa's best friend. Santa, being the loyal best friend, he was became their unofficial matchmaker and accidental third wheel. Somehow, however, he ended up becoming friends with Perth too. For years, Santa was part of Perth's little world. They went on adventures, shared inside jokes, had late-night conversations about life and the future, and knew enough about each other's habits to call themselves friends.
Then everything fell apart. Perth and Santa's best friend broke up. The friend group slowly scattered, Perth left the country with his parents, and life moved on.
Five years later, Santa meets Perth again at university. There is just one problem- Perth doesn't remember him.
Santa would like to say he handled this maturely. He did not. Instead, he decided he hated Perth. And because confronting people about their feelings is apparently too emotionally exhausting, Santa found an old email address Perth no longer used and started writing to it instead.
Every day. One email for every grievance. Every forgotten memory. Every ounce of resentment. Perth, completely unaware that he has somehow acquired a dedicated hater, goes on with his university life. Until Santa's roommate starts becoming friends with Perth's circle, forcing the two of them into each other's lives again.
Santa does his best to avoid him. Perth does his best to figure out why the sweet junior who smiles at everyone looks at him like he personally ruined his life. The more Perth tries to get closer, the more interested he becomes.
What starts as one-sided resentment soon becomes a complicated game of avoidance, confrontation, misunderstandings, jealousy, and feelings neither of them knows how to name. Because sometimes, the hardest person to hate is the person you never really stopped caring about.
