In a world driven by cold gears, smog-choked skies, and the steep price of artificial miracles, ten-year-old twins Aaron and Elara live in the shadow of a forgotten paradise. They are bound by a strange phenomenon: a recurring, shared dream of a vibrant era when natural riches were abundant, impossible mythical creatures roamed free, and a kind-hearted entity known as the Caretaker guided humanity. Branded as outcasts for believing their dreams are real, the twins' lives are upended when their father loses his factory job to automation, forcing the family to flee the high-tech capital for their grandparents' antique estate on the edge of the wildlands. But the country hides secrets of its own. When pieces of their dreams begin bleeding into reality-from an impossible cherry-blossom stag to a mysterious silhouette watching from the shadows-Aaron and Elara realize the ancient folklore isn't a myth at all. Armed with a map of local legends and a new ally, the twins must venture into the deep woods to uncover the truth of the Caretaker before the destructive shadows of the industrial world catch up to them. -(written with the help of Ai)-

"How dare you bring me aboard this ship without so much as telling me what you are?" She yelled. Kincade let out a smug grin, one that infuriated Astryd even more. She took a few more steps toward him so that they were mere feet apart. He looked down at a doubloon he was holding and slowly turned it over in his hands as he spoke. "I saw a troubled woman in a sailor's pub, obviously hiding from the royal guards. Surely you must have gotten yourself into a sticky situation. And you don't expect me to assume what you are?" Astryd fumbled for words. What was he getting at? He lifted his head to look her in the eyes. "You're a thief and now a sailor. You know what that makes you, sweetheart?" "I am not a..." she shouted, but she stumbled at the last word. She pointed her finger in Kincade's face and whispered, "pirate." -------------------------------------------- I would like to acknowledge Thompson Editing Services, who is responsible for being my editor and proofreader for this book as well as an amazing writing mentor.
