𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐈 𝐆𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 #𝟏 A tale drenched in curses, rain, and ruined royalty - Book 1 She slipped behind the thick trunk of a towering tree, pressing her back against its rough bark. Her chest heaved violently, breath escaping in short, ragged pants that shattered the fragile silence of the woods. Panic clawed at her throat. She quickly covered her mouth with one trembling hand to muffle the sound, terrified of drawing more attention, while the other gripped the torch, now switched off, so tightly her knuckles blanched. The footsteps were closer now. Slow. Steady. Unhurried. She could feel them, each step sinking into the earth like a deliberate claim. Her eyes squeezed shut when the sound stopped abruptly. On the other side of the tree, so close she could almost feel his presence through the bark, stood a shadow. He was leaning slightly forward against the front of the trunk... while she stood pressed against the back, only the rough strip of wood separated them, only inches. If she extended her hand just a little, She would touch him. "I know you're here," he whispered, his voice low and husky, the sound sliding down her spine like cold silk. She bit down hard on her lower lip to keep from gasping, afraid even the smallest sound would betray her. The pressure drew a bead of crimson from the soft flesh of her petal-like lip, and she tasted iron on her tongue. On the other side of the trunk, his pupils darkened. His head tilted slightly, leaning closer to the bark as if he could sense the warmth of her through it. With unhurried ease, he slipped a cigarette from the front pocket of his jacket. The soft flick of his lighter broke the silence, a brief flare of gold illuminating the sharp lines of his face. The flame kissed the tip. "I can feel your presence, you know," he murmured, tapping the cigarette lightly with his finger before bringing it back to his mouth.

"Why do you hate me so much, Maan" she asked hiccupping, hitting his chest. "I never said that" he said holding her hands. ____________________________________ "So, my Ita, how does it feels to be Mrs. Dutta," he asked holding her from behind while making eye contact in the mirror. "Best feeling in this world, Mr. Dutta" she replied kissing his cheek. ____________________________________ "I BLOODY ASKED YOU TO DO ONE THING BUT YOU CAN'T EVEN DO THAT!" he shouted slamming the wooden desk with his fists. "I am sorry, sir" she replied with tears welling up in her eyes. ____________________________________ "I will kill that man if I see him near you again" he said dangerously running his index finger from her forehead to neck. "W...why" she asked stammering. "Because you are mine"... ____________________________________ Cover- @Lady_whistleup

"He doesn't say 'I love you.' But he changed in all the ways that yelled it." •••••••••••••• Vaani Joshi never expected love from her arranged marriage - just respect, maybe some space, and silence she could live with. Dhruv Deshmukh was exactly that: powerful, unreadable, and cold. He didn't ask her what she liked. He didn't ask how her day was. And she never asked for anything. But then he started noticing. Not her words - her silences. Not what she wanted - what she gave up. The man who never looked twice is now the one who watches her the closest. And the girl who never expected anything... is the reason he's learning how to give everything. •••••••••••••••• "Why do you always notice the things I don't say?" He looked at her for a long second. "Because you never ask. And I've never wanted to give anyone more." •••••••••••••••• Tropes: Slow-burn romance | Arranged marriage | Contemporary drama | Indian diaspora | Urban luxury + emotional intimacy | Cold ML x Soft FL | Changing for her 🏅#1 in India 🏅#1 in Indian 🏅#1 in desi 🏅#1 in romance
