In which Lucy and Tim go on a long-term undercover assignment...as a married couple...after their breakup. It goes as well as you'd expect. Post S6 finale Chenford fic. - "Why'd you volunteer, Tim?" Lucy asks quietly. It's the question that's been plaguing her for the past two days, ever since she saw his name on the list. There's a lot of things that Tim hates, but she's pretty sure undercover work might be at the forefront. Yet, he had volunteered to do a long-term op, posing as her husband. She knows he's trying to pay everything back to her-small doses, he had said. But... This is a lot. This isn't just some small dose. This is just about as big as a dose that anything could be. "Because," Tim starts heavily, "I'll always have your back. As long as you'll let me."

The apartment was quiet. Too quiet. Tim Bradford leaned against the doorway, hoodie half-on, gun belt still strapped from a shift that shouldn't have ended so violently. Lucy Chen's eyes didn't meet his. She stared at the coffee mugs, two of them going cold - reminders that they were supposed to be together, but maybe still too broken to know how. "Are you really okay?" she asked, her voice tighter than she intended. He smirked, but it didn't reach his eyes. "I survive." She didn't laugh. "I want more than surviving, Tim. I want... us." The silence stretched between them, but neither of them moved. They had loved, lost, and somehow found each other again. And now, the city needed them undercover as a fake engaged couple - a role that would force every truth, every hidden feeling, every old wound to the surface. Pretending wasn't the hard part. Not with him. It was keeping herself from falling in love all over again.

"Tim and Lucy Bradford are two years into marriage stronger than ever, but also more vulnerable than they'd like to admit. They've built a life of quiet understanding, shared routines, and unspoken support until Lucy is suddenly asked to return to training duty. Her new rookie, Rowan Smith, is everything she used to be impulsive, idealistic, and desperate to prove himself but twisted by arrogance and ego. As Lucy struggles to earn his respect, Tim watches from the sidelines, torn between trust in his wife's strength and his instinct to protect her. When the line between professional and personal starts to blur, both Bradfords must learn that love, like police work, demands boundaries and sometimes, breaking them is the only way to survive. It's a story about marriage, partnership, jealousy, growth, and the kind of love that doesn't fade it fights."
