Jude Duarte has loved ice hockey for as long as she can remember. She works as a barrista in the coffee shop at her local rink, and coaches girls to help encourage them to join her team when they're older. However, when national champion figure skater Cardan Greenbriar returns to their small town, he steals some of her girls to the dark side (they start being helped by him with figure skating). Jude is furious, and will do anything to get her team back- including skating with Cardan while he's looking for a new partner. Jude is fully prepared to despise Cardan, but you never know- could she actually have fun? All characters belong to Holly Black. I do not own them.

What if during a revel, Cardan Greenbriar is seeking his beloved wife, Jude Duarte, and stumbles across a scene he would much love to erase from his memory. Set after The Cruel Prince, by Holly Black, this fanfic follows the relationship between Jude and Cardan, who have a love-hate relationship. There are many things wrong with the new reigning King, he's an alcoholic, doesn't care about ruling, and an overall asshole, but no matters, because Jude is the one in control. Jude never thought she'd be able to pull this off, she's successfully tricked Cardan into taking his place on the throne, until Oak comes of age. She is amazed with her own planning! But what happens when Cardan becomes not all so keen on being pushed around and manipulated. What will happen when the year and a day is up? What is to come of Jude Duarte then? While her twin, Taryn, is married to Loke, Jude's ex-boyfriend, causing the highest of tensions between the two, and the eldest sister, Vivi, just trying to settle and reset the peaceful sister trio. Oak, Vivi and Heather are all living in the mortal world, while Madoc an Oriana are trying to find Oak, as Madoc wants to use him to get to the throne, no matter how long that will have to wait. While Oriana just wants her son back. She misses him so much. Balkin has teamed up with the undersea and wants Nicasia to marry Cardan(like in The Wicked King) once again, for access to the throne. Orlagh, Nicasia's mother, is a ticking time bomb, as she threatens to cast war on the land. All of this is going on while Jude is ruling Elfhame from behind Cardan, causing her to stand ring on the edge of her sanity. She knows that the only help she's going to get is from The Court of Shadows, which is made up of The Roach, The Ghost and The Bomb.
