Nora is numb.
Maeve is regularly exploding.
The moment these two girls meet, the entire world tips upside down. They become inseparable nearly instantly, but they cannot stay by each other's sides without a fight. It seems as if the entire world is against them. When apart, they dream of being togther. When together, they dream of existing as horribly unladylike as they can imagine.
Nothing really can keep them apart, not for long at least. Not when they still carry the ideas of liberation only a girl can think up.
Nora resents the melancholy of girlhood. Maeve drowns in the loneliness of girlhood.
Eyes locked on each other, they throw everything else away.
How reckless can a girl truly be?

Nora glared at the girl, her pin straight black hair and the rosy cheeks sitting over her olive skin. She narrowed her eyes at the girl as she bumped against the desks, stumbling through the aisle as she fought with the bag on her shoulder.
Nora thought she might look like a goddess if she were to wet her hair.
If she sat under the sun, surely this girl would melt.
Nora wondered what her stomach looked like.
The teacher continued talking, as if this girl was just another girl.
She sat at the desk right beside Nora.
Nora stared at her own desk, as if being purposefully intimidated by a much larger man.
She stared and stared at her desk until her eyes crossed.
"Pst."
Nora's head didn't move- it couldn't- but her eyes darted to the side, toward the girl.
"Pst," the girl said again, leaning over the aisle toward Nora. "Do you have a pencil?"
