Book One of the Dragon's Peace The dragons are restless. The truce is breaking. And Bertram Lorne is caught in the middle. Orphaned and alone, Bert never expected much from life, until a chance discovery of a forgotten manuscript reveals an ancient language that dragons understand. When a reclusive inventor named Eldritch takes him in, Bert begins to uncover a dangerous truth: the peace between humans and dragons is failing and war is coming to Wyrmgate. But enemies already circle. Garrick Crowe, the ruthless new ruler of Wyrmgate, will use any means, including treachery, armies, and even dragons themselves, to tighten his grip on the realm. With rebellion brewing and secrets buried deep in the past, Bert finds himself at the center of a struggle that could burn kingdoms to ash. Not all seek bloodshed. If Bert can master the lost tongue, he might hold the key to restoring the peace. With the fate of both man and dragon at stake, he must decide where his loyalties lie before fire consumes everything he loves. Learn more at mrjohnston.ca/author

Book One of the New Enlightenment A realistic science fiction novel set in the not-so-far-away future. The relentless effects of climate change have driven Earth to its breaking point: catastrophic storms, raging wildfires, mass extinctions, and an unstoppable wave of human migration. Governments are paralyzed, and corporations are blinded by profit, ignoring the collapse of the very society they depend on. As poverty, starvation, and global conflict spiral out of control, the world teeters on the edge of chaos. But not everyone is ready to surrender. Solar Umbrella is a gripping tale of survival and innovation, where a small group of visionaries, led by Parker Varia, refuse to accept defeat. With the clock ticking, they set out to design and build a revolutionary device that could reverse the ravages of climate change. Standing in their way are powerful corporate forces and the unforgiving march of time. Yet, amid the despair, Parker and his team dare to hope, believing that their actions could reignite the spark of optimism and change the course of humanity's future.

The People had achieved a utopia of sorts. They were not aware of what grew under their feet. Join Jyor as he attempts to learn what threatens his home, and what might be gained from it. ------ This is a short story I wrote for a contest. The only rules (besides the obvious: no AI, no fanfic, etc.) was that the theme was "dragons in space". I definitely sort of skirted around that rule, but I'm pretty happy with it. Just a short (11.6k words) story, presented here in full. Fun to write, and I think it turned out well for my first attempt at a short story. There were 365 competitors, and I might have finished 365 for all I know!
