When the Carvers move from New York to a small town in Indiana, Jenny's world shifts. Jason, her older brother, clicks with everyone instantly; he's already the new kind of Hawkins High, replacing Steve Harrington before the school year has even started. Jenny's younger brother, Jimmy, fits in perfectly, too, but not Jenny. Jenny bikes to the mall alone, she gets ice cream from the cute boy at Scoops Ahoy alone... she's alone more than she's with someone. She relies on The Police and Billy Joel to comfort her.
Until one day, the boy at the counter brings her, her ice cream to her seat. They talk for a while, and after forming over the span of a few days, she realizes she's finally made a friend, but to what extent? What really comes with being friends with a guy like Steve Harrington? What really comes with being friends with the girl he works with, Robin Buckley? And what really comes with being friends with the curly headed boy, Dustin Henderson?
