Lo'ak was always the one who got into trouble, and Neteyam was always the one who followed to pull him out of it. That's how it was supposed to work. But when things go wrong during the battle with the RDA, the roles the brothers always played collapse in the worst possible way. Lo'ak dies, and Neteyam is the one left behind. Now the perfect son, the responsible warrior, and the older brother who was supposed to protect everyone has to live with the fact that he couldn't save the person who needed him most. As Neteyam tries to move forward, he's forced to face the guilt, anger, and grief that come with losing Lo'ak.

When someone comes from a navi family where everyone else is successful and praised by the clan, it always hard to live up to that status if you are seen as the family black sheep or shame. That was lo'ak life as he could never do anything right in his parents or clan eyes, as he would never be like neteyam or his sister kiri and tuk. Soon stripped of his family name and soon banished as well see as outcast by his own family and other clan, no longer a sully until he found a new place that welcome him and loved him for him. Every day he struggles to keep himself together, to eat, to speak, to breathe without feeling like he's dragging the weight of the world and his brother's death on his shoulders. He withdraws into himself, flinches at every touch, presses his hands into his leather bracelet, where the scares hide. As if the pain there could anchor him to reality, and the more he fights to stay present, the more he feels himself slipping, hallucinating, fading.

Growing up always feeling like Na'via was in her bestfriend's shadow, Tsireya. She begins to get used to the feeling of being ignored and uses it to do risky things, who's looking out for her anyway? But, then Na'via starts to feel noticed by one of the Sully boys', Lo'ak. Does this change Na'via completely?
