New poll in chapter 11. Help decide how the story ends! In the drowned shadows of the Louisiana bayou, a starving wolf follows an impossible scent to a flower that should not exist, and becomes a man who should not return. Declan Laroux awakens from instinct into memory, from beast into alchemist, with only fragments of his past and a single certainty: his forgotten hometown of Vieux Marais is in mortal danger. The town festers in secrecy, its people warped by unseen corruption, its church ruled by a predator in a priest's collar, and its streets haunted by sins that remember his name. Though he does not yet recall what he once did there, everyone else does-and they fear him for it. As Declan digs deeper, old alliances coil back to life: a snooping journalist who learns too much, a dangerous woman bound to a demon, a shadow-loyal servant with a taste for blood, and something ancient and nameless pressing against the borders of the town like a malignant hand against glass. Armed with forbidden potions and a will sharpened by reckless pride, Declan vows to cleanse Vieux Marais. But the deeper he descends into its rot, the clearer one truth becomes: the greatest evil in the town may not be what waits for him in the dark... but what waits for him in his own past.
