My monster is back in my house.
No one else sees him the way I do. To the world, he's respectable. To my mother, he's a second chance. To me, he's the reason I learned to survive with my teeth bared and my mouth sharp.
And he didn't come alone.
Killian is everything his father isn't: infuriating, unreadable, and impossible to ignore. He doesn't want this new family any more than I do, and he makes that clear from the moment we meet. He looks at me like he sees through the mask I've perfected, like he knows I'm not as untouchable as I pretend to be. We hate each other on sight. We push, we provoke, we cross lines we shouldn't.
Falling for him would be reckless.
Falling for him would mean loving someone tied to the one person I can never escape.
But hate and desire blur fast when you're trapped under the same roof, and the only thing more dangerous than my monster is his son.
And when he finally finds out the truth, he'll have to choose.
His father.
Or me.
The problem is that I've never been the one anyone chooses.
