I'm not extraordinary. I'm not gifted, or a genius, or any of the things you are. I must be so unexciting to you." I wasn't trying to put myself down. It's just fact. He was so far above me in every way. I touched one of the Mambas with a fingertip, pushing it around on the table while I wrestled with my thoughts, feeling my brow furrow like never before. "It just makes no sense." His response was immediate and not very helpful. "Yes, it makes no sense. Perhaps that's why... I don't know." When I glanced up, his wide, unblinking, dark eyes were already staring deep into my own. Two voids against that paper-white face. "Perhaps that's why it came to be."
