When Michael Robinavitch comes back from his trip, things at the ER in The Pitt fall back into their usual rhythm-busy shifts, constant noise, and barely enough time to breathe between patients.
For the most part, nothing has changed.
Except... maybe it has.
Michael finds himself noticing things he didn't before. The way Dennis Whitaker stays calm during the worst moments. The way their conversations stretch a little longer after shifts. The quiet, slightly awkward pauses that neither of them quite knows how to fill.
It's probably nothing. Just long hours and too much time spent working side by side.
Besides, the hospital already has enough problems without coworkers making things complicated. Lines exist for a reason-and crossing them would only make everything harder.
So they keep things the same.
Professional. Normal.
At least, that's the plan.
But the ER has a way of pushing people closer together, and the more time they spend working side by side, the harder it becomes to pretend there isn't something unspoken sitting just beneath the surface.
