Something is wrong inside the walls of the house-but it doesn't behave like damage, and it doesn't behave like something hidden. It reacts. At first it is only a sound. A slow, inward swallowing behind the structure that stops the moment it is noticed. But attention changes its behavior. Awareness changes its rules. And soon the house is no longer a place someone lives in-it becomes something that adjusts around presence itself. The narrator begins to realize a pattern forming beneath ordinary reality: movement alters it, silence triggers it, and observation does not reveal it so much as participate in it. The walls do not contain something. They respond as if containment is not their purpose, but correction is. As the phenomena escalate, the boundaries between observer and system begin to degrade. Sleep becomes discontinuous. Memory becomes unreliable. Even thought begins to arrive slightly ahead of intention, as if something is completing it before it is fully formed. What lies beneath the house is not just an entity. It is a process. And what it is processing may not be the house at all. By the time understanding arrives, it is no longer clear whether anything was ever outside of it to begin with.
