Chloe was only five years old when her mother passed away. Having lived with her grandmother, before moving in with her father's new family, Chloe's life changes forever as she finds out she has three brothers who are adamant on taking her home.
Once we all climbed out of the car, River opened the trunk, grabbed the suitcases, and handed them off to the guards. "They have to check them," he said flatly.
The words registered a second too late, and my eyes widened. "No way. That's an invasion of privacy."
"We have to make sure you didn't bring anything harmful-" River started.
"Just let them check, Chloe. There's nothing wrong with it," Nathan added, trying to play peacemaker.
I felt a surge of irritation. Nothing wrong with it? I clenched my fists at my sides. "You're the ones who came for me! I didn't even want to be here. I'm not letting you go through my things."
"Then you aren't coming in," River stated. His tone was harsh and firm; he wasn't going to budge.
"No!" I shook my head, refusing to back down.
"Done."
The voice interrupted us. I turned around to see the boy with the headphones-the one whose name I still didn't know-had already unzipped my suitcase and was digging through it.
His nose scrunched up as his eyes landed on the box of condoms sitting right on top. Gosh, this is embarrassing.
River raised an eyebrow, his gaze shifting back and forth between Kai and me before he quickly looked away.
I might have been hallucinating, but for a split second, the stoic, terrifying River actually looked flustered-he almost tripped over his own feet as he turned toward the house.
