Character descriptions vary because the actors don't look exactly like their comic book counterparts, and things were changed for the cinematic universe. This fan fiction is nowhere near canon. The thought of living as openly as West frightens him. After a chance meeting at a party and a single kiss, Zay is forced to rethink his life. Once he decides to tell his parents his secret things begin to spiral out of control. There's no cure for his illness and he's resigned himself to a slow and painful death. The only light in his life is hospital volunteer, Holly Monroe who spends her time reading to patients. When she's reading he can focus on something other than his pain. His fondest wish is to escape the hospital. To be free to live out his last days as he wishes.
