Over the years, Book's love for her grew more and more, it was weakening when Pencil started to become more mean, but overtime, when she finally started to acknowledge her mistakes and become a better person, it started to bloom more once again. Book thinks Pencil's the prettiest and most admirable person in the whole school, and she'd be the perfect girl for her, but one thing by "the perfect girl for her" she meant her and ONLY her, jealousy and rage would fill Book when Pencil got a little close to someone in a romantic way. At first it was just the two feelings anger and jealousy she felt, but as the years went by, those two emotions would only get stronger and stronger, until Book reached her breaking point.
