"𝘖𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘸𝘦'𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬." -•✿•- It's lonely at the top. At least, that's how high school senior Evelyn Carter feels now that her best (and only) friend has moved to Colorado. Evelyn has spent her whole life trying to live up to the expectations shaped by a sister she never met; therefore she never gets too close to anyone who isn't "perfect" and never lets herself want more. Then she meets Alexandra "Alex" Lane. Alex is everything Evelyn swears off: sarcastic, always in trouble, skipping school, and doesn't do assignments. But appearances can lie. And just because someone grows up seeing the worst things about themselves doesn't mean it's the truth. Before they have to work together, Evelyn finds Alex insufferable. Alex finds Evelyn stuck up, but with every interaction the two start to see all the things nobody else sees in each other. And suddenly, neither of them are as ice cold as they seem.

I'm Liliah. Sixteen, almost seventeen. I hate being me. Why? Ten reasons: 1. I'm stuck in Muxleigh - a suffocating seaside town. 2. My mum only cares when it affects her. 3. My step-dad runs our house on fear. 4. I'm failing the person I love most: my six-year-old sister, Forsythia. 5. I don't know who I am... or why I'm here. 6. I attacked the worst boy in town - now I'm hated, and he's still worshipped. 7. My vice? It's leaving scars. 8. My mental health? Apparently I belong in a psych ward. 9. Bexmoore was meant to be a fresh start. It wasn't. 10. I had two chances at something real... and I ruined them both. I'm at breaking point. Hiding in the dirt, literally, I'm not joking. What I hate the most? How alone I feel. Maybe telling my story means someone else won't feel like this. Before it's too late.

When Charlie Miller loses her job the week before both her roommates move to California, she decides it's time to get out of Texas. But with her bank account embarrassingly empty and her newly divorced parents living thousands of miles apart, she doesn't know where to go. And then she remembers Fisher. The small lakeside town in Idaho where she spent every summer until she was eighteen at her uncle's cabin. It's the last place she was truly happy, so the day Gaby and Tay move out, Charlie packs up her car and embarks on the 1,800-mile drive. She has no idea what to expect when she gets there: her uncle sold the cabin six years ago, after all, and the last time she was there she was surrounded by her cousins. This time around she is alone, and she is lonely. When she revisits the old cabin, it's pure nostalgia. Until she is caught by the neighbor. Who just happens to be the most beautiful woman Charlie has ever seen. She is smitten, instantly, and all of a sudden her trip to Fisher has a purpose. The only problem: Lou is almost twenty years older, she has a teenage daughter, and Charlie's pretty sure she's straight. But the more time they spend together, the less sure Charlie is, and when a freak event throws them together, there's only one way to find out. After all, she's only here for two weeks and then she has to figure her life out. She has nothing left to lose. © Elle Carrigan 2023

Hazel Flynn's life is...fine. Not great. Not tragic. Just aggressively average. She's broke, drowning in student loans, working the front desk at a doctor's office and trying (unsuccessfully) to make it as an artist in New York. When she lies to her parents about having a girlfriend and an upcoming art exhibition, she fully expects both problems to somehow magically resolve themselves. They do not. With Christmas getting closer and no fake girlfriend in sight, Hazel is running out of time and courage. Sometimes the hardest thing isn't fooling everyone else. It's not fooling yourself.

Out the window, I see her - Hayden Musk, striding across the quad like she owns it. Her rugby bag slung over her shoulder, hair tied up in a way that looks messy but perfect. She laughs at something her friend says, tipping her head back so the sun hits her cheekbones. For a second, my heartbeat trips over itself. Hayden's the kind of person who makes you wish you were brave. I've only ever spoken to her once - last year in the library, when she asked if the seat next to me was free. I remember how she smiled, how she smelled like grass and shampoo. I remember I couldn't speak properly for hours afterwards. Lucy follows my gaze, raises an eyebrow. "You know her?" I drop my eyes fast. "No. Not really." "Right." Lucy flips her hair over her shoulder. "She's trouble anyway." I almost laugh. I don't think Hayden Musk could be trouble for me if she tried. I'm invisible. And maybe that's safer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part of me is always searching - the next game, the next girl, the next spark that might stick. Then I see her. Felicity Marianne - all soft edges and hidden eyes, hugging her books like they're the only thing keeping her upright. She's too pretty for this place. She looks like a secret you'd promise to keep forever. Alex elbows me mid-sentence. "Hey, Musk - you listening?" I grin, unapologetic. "Sorry. Distracted." "By who?" She follows my gaze, laughs under her breath. "Marianne? She's a ghost, mate." "Maybe I like ghosts," I say. It's a joke but it isn't. I've been surrounded by loud, bright people my whole life. Maybe I want quiet for once. Something soft. Something real. Alex makes a face. "She's way out of your league." I raise an eyebrow. "Think so?" She laughs. "I know so. Come on, Captain. First period. Let's go pretend we care."
