When a mysterious object crashes to Earth in the midst of the Autobots' war for the AllSpark, no one - human or Cybertronian - knows what to make of it. It's not a Decepticon. It's not any artifact the Autobots have ever catalogued. It's an egg - massive, iridescent, and humming with an energy signature that makes Optimus Prime's spark ache with something older than memory.
Sam Witwicky didn't sign up for alien dragon babysitting. He was already drowning in a war between giant robots from another planet, and the government's idea of "protection" was putting a target on his back. But when the egg hatches and a three-headed hatchling imprints on him - him, of all people - what else is he supposed to do? She's small now. Well, small-ish. Golden scales that drink the light, six bright eyes that see straight through him, and a voice in his head that feels like moonlight given sound. He names her Ithil, because on their first night together, she spread her wings beneath the moon and sang.
She has no name of her own yet. Not really. Not one she remembers. So (Y/N) will do for now - a placeholder, a question, a promise that someday she'll know who she is.
But Ithil is no ordinary creature. As she grows at an alarming rate, so does the terrifying power crackling beneath her scales - gravity beams that warp the air like heat off asphalt, a telepathic bond with Sam that neither of them asked for and neither can sever, and an instinct to dominate that she fights like a war inside her own chest every single breath. The Decepticons want to break her into a weapon. The government wants her in a cage. Even the Autobots watch her with optics full of something that isn't quite trust.
And deep within her spark, something ancient stirs - memories of a world she's never seen, a hunger she can't explain, a throne she doesn't remember abandoning, and a destiny that could swallow the war for Earth whole.
Sam promised to protect her. She promised to be good.
