If Adahlia Flores could make her godmother, Savannah Monreal, one of her characters in her stories and illustrations, Ada would make her her literal knight-in-shining armor, just like in her imagination. To Ada, she was the best. She's the only person who understands her. She's the one she turns to when there's no one else. She's the only one who never gets annoyed despite being different. She's the only one who knows her enough, even in her distress.
As time passes, Adahlia realizes that Savannah is of the age to settle down, and she knows that in order for the older woman to accomplish that, she has to let her go. It's a must to let her go. She can't keep her, Adahlia knows that. She may be naive, but she's not oblivious to the difference between their worlds, to the sensations the woman causes her, and to how illicit it is to feel a state of bliss for the only person who's always been as sweet as her promises.
