Esra of the Northern Water Tribe was never enough for her father. Not as a daughter. Not as a waterbender. Not as the child he raised like an afterthought while he poured his pride into the boys he trained, the boys he treated like the sons he always wanted.
In a tribe where women are taught to heal rather than fight, Esra learns to do both.
By day, she is the prodigy healer and student, disciplined, intelligent, and obedient in the eyes of the tribe. Though she secretly studies, her father and other masters train their students in combat, she memorizes every skill and technique they think women cannot understand. And by night, she trains herself in the combat techniques that are forbidden to women. While others sleep, she builds a fighting style all her own, one no one was ever meant to see. All while hiding her ambition behind discipline, intelligence, and a calm smile that never reveals how sharp her thoughts truly are.
Still, none of it earns the one thing she wants most. Her father's approval remains just out of reach.
But the arrival of the Avatar brings change to the North and her.
