At first glance it just seems to be whenever he recovers from near death he gets much stronger, however as he gets stronger his quirk develops into much much more. He soon learns that the reality that he was living was a lie and that he wasnt blessed with a quirk, instead he was quirkless, bullied and mocked by others. It had played out like the normal story line.
