Maxine Crawford had always embraced life on her own terms-calm, reserved and unafraid of any chaos that came with it. But what she never expected was for her return to her local high-school to unravel everything she thought she knew. Annabelle Quinn had always been a quiet, kind hearted, high-school senior, someone Maxine had barely acknowledged growing up. Annabelle was nothing more than her brothers good friend, someone who had always been "off limits" to her. When Maxine begins volunteering at the school, she starts seeing the girl in a new light. Behind those soft eyes, and gentle smiles, there was also a darkness, a web of secrets Anna had kept hidden for years. As Maxine becomes more entangled in Annabelle's world, she finds herself drawn to her, despite every instinct telling her to stay away. Their connection is undeniable, but some bonds are more dangerous than they first appear. (editing in the process)

She was a temptation. And I was beginning to be tempted. Abby Delilah Marie Blackwood. The worst girl to ever exist. The devil incarnate, who walks with her head held high, and her nails perfectly sharp like her grey eyes. Even when I think my day was going great, it ruins the instant she looks in my direction. She was taller. Colder. Ruder. And the daughter of a Billionaire. And way out of my league. But so was I. She thinks I'll bow down to her like all the others do in fear. That I'll admit I'm scared of her. But I'm not. Her reserved and cold interior, were ones that always made me annoyed and yet so captivated by her. Because even when I'm not looking at her, I always feel her eyes trail over me. I might be making a mistake, playing this game with her. But I am far from done with it. She was heartless, and ruthless with those stormy grey eyes, and those soft yet cold lips. She was everything I should stay away from. Yet I found myself inching towards her. One time I looked at her with nothing but curiosity and attraction, now I look at her with curiosity and a deep burning hatred as she does me. I never wanted the easy life, and by the looks of it neither does she.

Sometimes we're not even fully aware of how similar hate and love really are. How closely they sit together, how thin the line is between them. One wrong word, one wrong choice, one moment of fear or anger, and you cross it without even realizing you've done so. That's how it had alwags been with Casey Miller and Olivia Lordan. They didn't hate each other for no reason. There were reasons, plenty of them, actually. Old wounds that never healed right, memories that calcified instead of fading, words spoken too young and carried for too long. But were those reasons valid enough? That was the question no one ever asked out loud. Because validity is subjective. Pain doesn't measure itself against intent. Trauma doesn't care how old you were, or what you meant to do. It just exists, heavy and unrelenting, shaping you whether you want it to or not. Everyone has flaws. Everyone has demons they fight in private. Some people turn inward and rot quietly. Some people explode. Some people run. Some people stay and harden. None of it is clean, and none of it is fair. And maybe that was the cruelest part for them. Not the hate. Not the anger. Not even the silence. But the fact that, once upon a time, it had been love, or something dangerously close to it, and that was what made everything else hurt so much more.
