To be honest, if Steve didn't have a royal escort every time he came and left the stables, Eddie would have assumed he was just another noble's child. But he was the prince. He had his pick of any maiden in the kingdom and all the riches he could dream of. Still, when he saw his escort outside the stables every night, he seemed displeased and one might even say wistful.
