Merlin discovers just how much Arthur is willing to sacrifice for him, whilst Arthur struggles with the ever-present responsibility of being heir to the throne of Camelot, and Merlin with his own destiny. Their shared burdens bring the pair closer than they could've imagined.

He only heard a faint bump when he should have heard something a lot louder. Merlin's fears from the previous day came true as he sat there in bed trying to process it. The ringing had gone, but he still couldn't hear anything. OR Merlin gets injured in a fight and is rendered temporarily deaf. He doesn't want Arthur to find out, but he does anyway. Angst and hurt/comfort ahead.

A Merthur fic set in canon era. After two years of putting up with his useless excuse for a manservant, Arthur begins to suspect that there may be more to Merlin than meets the eye. But Merlin's not the only one with a secret. And maybe destinies aren't always as they seem. AU where I use elements of all five seasons in a way that does not always comply with canon.
