He's the storm. She's the sunshine. Magnolia, Louisiana, will never be the same. Maverick Hayes came to Magnolia to stand up in his best friend's wedding, not to put down roots. A former Marine with scars too deep to count, he's spent his life running from the wreckage of his past. But when a gruff favor at a women's shelter pulls him into the orbit of Kayla Broussard, he finds himself caught between walls he's built and a light he can't resist. Kayla has always been the strong one-teacher, caretaker, and the quiet force behind The Magnolia House, a shelter she built in honor of a friend she couldn't save. She knows better than to fall for a man with storm clouds in his eyes. Yet every time Maverick shows up-for her students, for the shelter kids, for her-the pieces of her heart fall faster. When Maverick's past crashes back into Magnolia, threatening everything he's found, Kayla must decide if her sunshine can weather his storm. Together, they'll learn that home isn't where you're from-it's who you fight for.

By working in a succession of restaurants and bars, she knew what it took to earn a paycheck, she has the callouses and circles under eyes to prove it. At no point did she prepare for the 6'6 blue eyed biker that decided that she was his at first glance. Hell, she had no idea if there was a way to prepare for the tsunami that was Grayson Baxter. Gray was an incredible club brother, an awesome friend, an all-around good guy to those to whom he respected and cared for. For the rest of the world he was a physically intimidating behemoth of a man who gave zero f*cks about what others outside of his circle thought of him. He'd grown up in the a picture perfect home that was full of love, support and pride, just not for him. His family wasn't sad when he gave them a one finger wave in his rear view mirror when he finished high school, he left and never looked back. This is an unedited first draft ... suggestions and comments are truly appreciated! Finding his place in the world, with his by choice, not by blood family was great. Finding the sweet little nurse in his clubs bar? Well, that was just more than he could of ever hoped for.

A story about a smart woman who loves her husband, her son and her life. When she learns that her husband isn't the man she thought he was, she works on giving her son the life he deserves. It's also about a lying and cheating man, who thought he was clever enough to avoid honesty and accountability in his life. Sometimes making a mistake and then sincerely apologizing, just might just not be enough. "Mommy, why is daddy and that lady nakey hugging?" My son innocently and loudly asks, while his father seems to be trying to locate his pants. Spoiler alert, they are on the floor under my feet, by the door, not anywhere near where he and his 'nakey' friend are sprawled on the couch. The woman shrieks, Kayley and I both fumble for the light switch just as River hits the button for daddy's 'magic office windows', which are now fully visible to the entire office floor, and all 127 employees are staring at and sharing my horror as my husband and his whatever she is are naked and trying to get dressed. Well damn, happy Wednesday to me.
