❝I dug my heels into the gravel as evidence for you to unravel. A drag path, etched in the surface. Can you find me?❞ Max Verstappen has been bitter about the hand life dealt him for as long as he can remember. While his cousins grow up in ancestral estates and lavish mansions, he spends his childhood in a dingy motorhome, enduring the wrath of an abusive father. Cunning, charming, and utterly ruthless, Max claws his way out of that life the only way he knows how - through lies, well-played deception, and perfectly executed cons. With a loyal crew of misfits at his side, he's built an existence on the edge of society. Yet for Max's insatiable hunger, this quiet life of petty scams isn't enough. He's only ever wanted what he believes should be his. So he fixes his gaze on his greatest target yet: a heist against his spoiled, undeserving cousins - Lordling Lando Norris and billionaire's heir Lance Stroll - the perfect marks to finally undo the shitty hand life dealt him. Standing in his way is Detective Inspector George Russell, lead investigator with Scotland Yard's Major Investigation Team - a man with a spotless reputation, a razor-sharp mind to match his own, and a personal history with Max that neither of them can escape.

❝You're always my reminder, of where I started from. You're always my reminder, I'll never prove you wrong.❞ George Russell is finally where he has longed to be his entire racing career: in a head-to-head title fight with Max Verstappen, holding his own against the four-time World Champion. With six races left in the season, George is closer than ever to what his every waking thought has been consumed by - not only becoming World Drivers' Champion, but beating Max while he's at it. But then a collision on track changes everything: George wakes up in Max's body, and Max in his. Trapped inside the life of the rival he has spent years trying to defeat, George is forced to confront a lifetime of bitter feelings, as every win he takes in Max's body will only be added to Max's legacy - and intentionally crashing out would just play into the hands of Oscar Piastri, their silent pursuer looming ever closer in the rear-view mirror. To save his championship, George must do the impossible - get Max Verstappen to cooperate, all while the lines between them begin to blur.

It's no secret George Russell and Max Verstappen don't get along, the on track rivalry was legendary among fans and drivers alike, snide remarks in post race interviews, threats and more insults than they could count. Max thinks George is uptight and too much of a killjoy; George thinks Max is arrogant and reckless. Everything changes after Max has a very vivid and romantic dream of George that makes him question how he really feels about the other, chaos ensues. or the one where Max has a dream about George that changes everything.

George Russell hates Max Verstappen. Like, actively. They argue. They instigate. They fight over absolutely nothing. George considers Max his sworn enemy; Max considers George... annoying but entertaining. Then one night, George gets sent a fanfiction. A romantic one. About him and Max. Suddenly, Max's smirks linger too long. Their arguments feel charged. Eye contact becomes dangerous. And George - once so sure of who his enemy was - starts getting awkward, flustered, and far too aware of Max's presence. Because maybe the line between rivalry and something else was never as clear as George thought. Enemies. Rivals. Lovers? One fic. One shift. And a rivalry that might burn into something much more dangerous. ; ) - Book 1 - (Can be read as a standalone) Sequels: -) Bet For Feelings - Book 2 - Landoscar

Max Verstappen isn't a hero. At least, that's what he keeps telling himself. He's just-trying. Too trying. The kind of trying that makes your palms sweat when you lift a grocery box, that makes your chest tighten as the world moves too fast around you. When he steps outside, the streets should've just been another blur, another student hustling, another afternoon slipping by. But then he sees him-someone balancing paper bags with careful hands, oversized hoodie sleeves dragging past his wrists, eyes darting nervously at the crowd. George doesn't mean to stand out. But he does. They collide in the simplest of ways, a spilled bag, a shared glance, a wordless chaos that somehow feels like it could settle into something steady. Max doesn't know why he keeps reaching for the fallen groceries, why he can't look away. George tilts a small smile in his direction, awkward, hesitant, but entirely his own. And for the first time that day, Max pauses-not because he has to, but because he wants to. He shouldn't feel anything. Not this flutter of surprise when George hands him a neatly folded note. Not this quiet curiosity that tugs him toward someone who barely says a word but says everything anyway. "Thank you," the note says one day. And somehow, Max reads it, and it echoes louder than any noise around them. George fidgets with a small board, scribbles something, spins it toward Max. The words are careful, deliberate, tiny moments of trust wrapped in marker ink. Max grins. And George grins back. Between hurried errands, scattered groceries, and moments that teeter on awkwardly sweet, Max begins to see patterns-of care, of thoughtfulness, of someone who notices him just as much as he notices them. And maybe-just maybe-he's learning how to pay attention, how to stay present, how to see someone fully for the first time. Because this time, when George stretches out a hand, Max doesn't hesitate.
