The Smiths were the typical American family. Mr. Alfred Smith was a businessman, working nine to five, though often coming home late as if avoiding something. His wife, Mrs. Eleanor Smith, was a baker who ran her own business, making cakes for bake sales, schools, and churches. They had three children: Hazel, Lucas, and Owen. To the outside eye, they were loving kids, and their family seemed picture-perfect.
But beneath the surface, there were deep cracks in their family dynamic which no one knew about - cracks that had burrowed deep within everyone. Behind their closed doors lay a lot of tears, tension, and disagreement. Their meticulously maintained perfect family persona, however, hid it all, making their problems invisible to the world.
