Teresia knows sleeping with the pastor's son is a terrible idea. In 1984, eighteen-year-old Teresia is stuck at The Well Fellowship with her mother and stepfather, surrounded by people who mistake obedience for virtue and gossip for concern. She knows how to play along when she has to. She knows how to stay quiet. What she does not know is how to stop wanting Charles Connors. Charles is the pastor's son. Beautiful, experienced, and far too used to getting away with things, he comes with a reputation Teresia understands immediately. He is the last person she should get involved with and the first person who makes her feel fully seen. What begins in secrecy turns into something deeper, more dangerous, and harder to contain. As their relationship intensifies, the walls around Teresia begin closing in. The church is watching. Charles's family already has their doubts about her. A secretive writing group offers the possibility of another life, but even there, jealousy and gossip have teeth. Every choice she makes pulls her further from the version of herself everyone wants, and closer to the one she might have to destroy everything to become. Set against the heat and pressure of a Southern church town, Teresia is a dark coming-of-age romance about desire, power, shame, obsession, and the cost of wanting freedom more than forgiveness. ❤️ REVIEWS ❤️ Your story still pops into my head. When Teia Cloto travels to Naples, Italy, hoping to steady a life already quietly unravelling, the last thing she needs is a blind date that turns into an easy, unexpected friendship. Alden instantly makes the city feel strangely familiar in ways Teia didn't know she needed. Drawn deeper into Naples' ancient past and her own unsettling sense of déjà vu, the line between coincidence and destiny begin to blur. Staying friends is simpler. But Teia must confront whether destiny is a story we inherit, or one we choose to rewrite, no matter the cost. Water and Sand is a contemporary love story that reimagines the myth of Theseus and Ariadne, where love is a labyrinth and friendship feels like the safest way out. #ONC2026 contest. Story is complete. Prompt 24: Staying as friends is meant to be safe, but that doesn't mean it's the path you're meant to take; Prompt 28: Self-love often starts small, like planting a seed. With time, patience, and a bit of light, it will grow; and Prompt 29: You meet many people in your life. Many will come and go, but some will leave footprints on your heart.

Sylvia Casas is a med student with a reputation for being brilliant, terrifyingly focused, and emotionally unavailable on purpose. Love, in her experience, is just another way to get hurt--ask her late adoptive father, ALS, and a lifetime of regret she refuses to unpack. Matthew Ellis is hockey's golden boy: fast on the ice, faster with a smile, and dangerously good at getting under people's skin. His problem? A controlling, alcoholic mother who treats his future--and his love life--like it's hers to script. When a gas leak throws them together, Sylvia reads him like a diagnosis. Matthew reads her like a challenge. And somehow, between sarcastic remarks, heated glances, and way too much proximity, they start to blur the line between "absolutely not" and "what if?" But with toxic parents tightening their grip and hockey rivals circling the ice like trouble on skates, falling in love might be the dumbest--and most irresistible--play they could make. NOTE: One thing is sure. Either Matthew scores into your heart, or Sylvia diagnoses you with a dangerous case of reading addiction. 😉 WHAT-TO-EXPECT CHECKLIST: ✅ Slow-burn sports romance + sex scenes ✅ Enemies to lovers ✅ Double POV style ✅ Adult issues: pain, use of alcohol, manipulative tendencies, sociopathic behaviors, illnesses and wounds, mention of suicide, mild violence, possibly cruel pranks ✅ Endless teasing sass + some humor ✅ Happy ending! YAY!
